Should i give csc

Is there any organisation here in Dhaka? My name is Pramit from India. Currently , I am working in an organization as a Financial Accountant since last 1 year. I aim to get into Investment Banking.

I would like to know whether CSC will create some value additions in landing an investment banking job or not? Hey there, I am a full time student that is back in toronto for the summer. Is there anyway I can crash the course into just a couple months? I have a lot of finance knowledge already and I am very efficient with my time. What do you guys think? I want to be done before early september. Its actually quite extensive on reading and they test your understanding of the material not your knowledge.

I did mine in a little less than 4 months which I think is the minimum amount of time you need, and although I passed easily, I did regret not taking at least a few more weeks to really internalize everything they teach you. Do robo advisors need these kind of certificate? Hi Khang, check out the article we wrote on robo advisors — there are people behind those programs! The only thing that is automated is the selection of investing portfolios. Most of the other folks that you deal with for actual advice will presumably have some sort of credential — although right now in Canada we do a terrible job of standardizing financial credentials of any kind.

Welcome to the certification game my friend. I am not the greatest with exams and can easily forget the content I read. Should I purchase study notes and just study the notes? If so, from where? Did you pass on first try? There is also third part websites like See Why Learning and Oliver Learning who provide study notes, has anyone purchased these study notes??? See Why Learning Guarantees you pass the test with their notes or money back??

Is this true , are their notes really based on the exams???? I stumble upon this blog in search of licensing requirements to offer the public start-up convertible notes, bonds, as well as trading options for others.

One thing I learned about this financial job is that you have to commit to continuing studies trainings to be compliant to regulatory bodies and to avoid future litigation. Experience and knowledge from yesterday does not necessarily mean or guarantee its application tomorrow.

Thanks for chiming in CJ — the ironic thing about your statement is that it is far more likely that your hypothetical year-old will have less retirement savings than expected BECAUSE she went to a bank or investment firm. Far better off going to a fee-only advisor! Besides — what type of investments go from K to zero overnight? Thanks Kyle, very interesting. All i have is my high school diploma but I have a lot of experience with the stock market I day trade , I was wondering if I get as many courses possible from CSI, am I going to have a chance?

I want to be a portfolio manager. There is no logical reason, but that filter that post-secondary education currently operates in Canada functions as a monopoly. First would like to say sorry about my English, it is my second language. There might be a lot of grammar errors. I went through all this situation and questions myself before. Just to introduce myself, I have a B. For those who planning to take the CSC, you mush know the certificate only last for 3 years.

Most of bank will pay for the course if it is required by your position. IFIC is a lot cheaper and is also a lot easier. Use it I mean register as a license sale rep. For those who think the certificate will help you to secure a job in the bank, you might have to reconsider. First, I think the same way by taking the course will help me to get into the banking world. Reality check!!! You need to know someone to get in. The most important thing is your experience. Nowadays, most banks like to hire salesperson because the only thing you do in the bank is sell, sell, sell.

FYI that not what I expect before I get into that world Now they started to ask the front teller to sell. If that is what you want to do then get a sale job and learn how to sale. Also know your banker and build a relationship with them. It will be way easier to get in if you know someone inside.

The bank will train you on what you need to know after you get hired and they will pay for whatever certificate you need if it require by your position. With the same position in the bank, we get pay the same.

I double, if not triple or quadruple my targets and they still expect more. CFA is the one you aim for to get into investment banking world but you need a degree before you can register for the level 1 exam. Sorry for the long post I hope it helps some people who are debating whether or not to take the exam. Again, it is my personal experiences and my opinions. Some might disagree what I said. Thank you very much for the detailed post YT! No worries about the 2nd language stuff.

I wish I was confident enough to attempt a comment in a second language! I have just received my PR for Canada and plan to land there in a few months. What courses should I do to get into a bank. Will the CSC course help me.

Thanks in advance. Hey Lisa. It really depends on many factors. I would say that your English skills probably at least as big a role as any credential.

I would also guess that it depends on what position you want within the bank. Do you think I could pull off the CSC in 4 months? There are probably better people out there to answer this question Kyle, but imho someone who is motivated and has time can accomplish quite a bit. If you are motivated to learn and usually pick things up quickly I bet you could do it in 4 months.

Worst case scenario you take it again and pay a bit of money right? I was looking up pinterest and found your post. To have your certificate, there is 2 volume. So 2 very hard exam… Just saying! While you do your CSC, some recommend you do your code of practice cours after. Volume 2, you can fully help someone. I did it with my class at my community college. We are all studying financial plannig so, maybe by having a bigger class, you get your exam sooner because they know the exam will not just be for 2 or 3 person?

And I saw in the earlier comment that some people where still in college and thinking of doing their CSC. Let just say, having an agenda and plan when to study helps a lot! Thanks for the feedback Myriame! Glad to see our Pinterest traffic is going strong! Congrats on your successes so far and good luck going forward. If you got the spare cash lying around I would think it would look good on your CV right? Thanks Sarah. The decision is still fresh in my mind.

Thanks for your time and info! So I have a question. I am new to this so I am sorry but if I just read that pdf, can I just go and do the exam and get my designation instead of paying that for the course. Kyle, 1. The CSC is the technical proficiency side of getting licensed.

Thanks for the replies about study time. Ah yeah. Maybe do it between levels one and two if you are bored over the summer. Does anyone have any tips to share? Just stick to a consistent schedule. It takes like 1 hour to read a chapter. There are 27 chapters, so you can knock it out quick. Regarding the price. It is expensive, I am not going to lie. It burned a serious hole in my pocket BUT, if I look at it this way: I failed CFA level 1 the first time because it was too much to take in during a 6 month study period.

I had to learn the basics then the intermediates. It does expire but you can take as long as you need to study it. In my opinion, yes. Because I think knowledge is always worth it. So if you just want the textbooks to learn on your own, that is an option. If you want to take the CSC to further your career, here are some of the different paths you can take. Honestly, outside of the financial industry bubble, most people have never heard of the PFP. If you want to become a Portfolio Manager, Advising Representative, Associate Advising Representative or to be able to conduct discretionary portfolio management services for clients with an IIROC member firm, this might be a designation you want to pursue after passing the Canadian Securities course.

My estimate is that it will take me two years to get exam-ready, so wish me luck! Far from it. That is definitely accurate. And the reason for that is because there is just so much content to understand and memorize. No one can just breeze through the textbooks and expect to pass unless you have a photographic memory or have done similar courses before. If you want to pass, I would suggest giving yourself at least 6 months to study. I would also suggest focusing on Volume 1, then taking the exam, then cracking open Volume 2 to study.

If I could do anything differently, it would have been to focus on one volume at a time. But also, do what you need to do to pass! This was just my experience and worked for me. Hey Jessica, thanks for this! Would you recommend someone try taking this if they are terrible at math — like, failed gr. Oh definitely! If this gal who has a fine arts degree can pass the CSC, you can too!

Good luck! Why dint you look at taking up ific against csc, as with both you can take up CFP. Cost wise ific is cheaper as well. Any particular differentiating factor between csc and ific?? Hey Jessica,Thanks for the reply , I meant csi themselves offer Ific course. As per the career path chart listed in their website People who pursue that also can take the cfp path correct me if I am wrong , Wanted to know what the key difference between the Canadian securites course and investment funds in Canada course offered by csi.

Your views and advice on the same would greatly help. Thank you. Typically, the people who take the IFC want to become mutual fund dealers. Thank you again : Hope to see your response. Hi Amy, all I can share is my experience studying and passing the exam, not with entering the finance industry workforce. But my suggestion would be to connect with people who have roles you aspire to get and ask about their path.

From your experience, how similar would you say Exam 1 was in relation to the Practice exams in terms of difficulty. Was hoping you can help me get a better idea on what to expect. The real exams I found to be more difficult, though it could also be due to the setting the exam centre, especially during Covid, was more high stress than doing it on my laptop in my living room.

I did much better on the practice exams than the real thing, but you should be fine scoring that high on the practice exams. Remember, the goal is to pass. Anything above that is just gravy. Jessica, congrats on your passing the CSC and good luck with your career path. If I remember correctly there was only a few less than 5, if that Practise Exam questions came up in the actual Exam.

They actually had a couple questions from Volume 2 thrown in in the Volume 1 Exam. Thanks in advance. Best regards Dan. Congrats on passing Vol. But yes, expect more of the same. Personally, I enjoyed Vol. Hey Jessica , thanks for providing your experience with the CSC exam. I agree not ideal but so far so good but lots of studying lol.

I had a quick question concerning your next steps in your learning for the CFP designation. Why did you Choose steam 1 vs stream 3? Is there a big difference?

I chose stream 1 for the CFP because I was genuinely looking forward to taking both Financial Planning 1 and 2 courses. I think it was very useful. I am ready to apply for the csc because I want to work in bank. Ive enrolled in CSI course and bought the combo pack!!! And are there practice exams available in package or do you have to pay extra???

Hey Jessica — thanks for taking the time to blog. Just wrote the first test and passed. Onward to volume 2! Thank you so much for the valuable input.

I want to know whether taking the Canadian securities course from a college will help to have better chances and pass this certification? Hey Jessica, Thanks for the helpful insights about the exam. I am scheduled to write exam 2 in a couple of weeks. Any inputs on this would help. Hope I am able to clear it. But since you still have some time to study, if there are any areas you feel are your week points, make sure to go through the exercises again and just keep going through those sections until you feel it makes more sense.

Do you recall roughly? Not a lot from what I remember especially compared to exam 1. I spent a lot of time memorizing formulas for Vol. I studies for almost 7 months gave exam 2twice dnt clear, really felt many questions were out of syllabus.

Not sure if I understand. How would you recommend to studying efficiently for a dry material course like this? A friend mentioned she would read it 3x first to briefly read, second to highlight and third to summarize. Looking forward to your help! Ya I read both textbooks twice. This exam is no joke! Hello Jessica, Thank you for making this blog.

It is really informative. I would like to ask one question: I am not finance student or have any mathematics background, would it would be hard for me to take the course. Would you recommend any basics that i should study before taking the course? I look forward to hearing from you. If you have zero investing or finance background, it might be worth it to read some finance books beforehand and listen to some podcasts just to get familiar with it all.

Do I have to buy that one or use the different method to study and get the pass mark? I am so down and confused. Please let me know any suggestion which I can improve?

Hello Jessica, I have couple of questions. Do we have to enroll for the csc course in order to give the exam?
