Ancient Nord armor is low-quality heavy armor, providing the same amount of protection as iron armor with slightly less weight. All items can be tempered using 1 iron ingot , and having the Daedric Smithing perk doubles the quality improvement.

This makes it comparable to some of the higher tier armors. It bears a resemblance to the decayed armor worn by Draugr. However, what makes it relatively rare is the fact that it cannot be obtained from defeated Draugr or crafted under normal circumstances. It can be obtained by completing the Companions ' quest line, allowing it to be smithed at the Skyforge. This item can only be crafted at the Skyforge once the Companions main questline has been completed.
