What is an upper class lifestyle? Among both the middle and lower classes, the assessments are much more negative.
In addition, upper-class adults are more likely than lower- or middle-class adults to have experienced rising economic mobility over the course of their lives.
Those in the lower class are considerably more negative. The widespread sense of well-being among upper-class adults extends beyond their financial lives. When compared with middle- and lower-class adults, they are more likely to say they are making progress in their careers, and those who are employed are more satisfied with their jobs. Upper-class adults are also more highly satisfied with their family life than are middle- and lower-class adults.
Upper-class adults are also happier and healthier than those in the middle and lower classes. The gaps are almost identical when it comes to personal health. Although the recession officially ended more than three years ago, many Americans continue to experience the lingering effects of the economic downturn. Upper-class adults have not completely escaped these lasting effects, but their experience has been tempered by their greater economic security. Self-described upper-class adults are much less likely than those in the middle and lower classes to have experienced a variety of economic hardships in the past year.
For the lower class, this has been a much bigger problem. Again, upper-class adults are much less likely to have faced this challenge. And for lower-class adults, this problem is fairly widespread. When it comes to paying the bills more generally, a similar pattern can be seen.
Survey respondents were asked to estimate how much a family of four would need in annual income to be considered wealthy in their area. Because the cost of living varies widely across the country, estimates of how much income is needed to be considered wealthy differ across regions and types of community.
Those living in suburban communities give a higher estimate of what it would take to be considered wealthy in their area than do those living in urban or rural areas. Rural residents have significantly lower estimates for what is needed to be wealthy where they live.
As the Republican Party continues to court middle-class voters throughout the fall campaign, it will have to contend with the widespread perception that it is the party of the rich. Similarly, there has been relatively little change in perceptions about the Democratic Party. These overall numbers mask sharp differences among partisans themselves.
When it comes to the candidates themselves, the public sees a potential Romney presidency being much more beneficial for the rich than for the middle class or the poor. Roughly half from each group say they would help the middle class. The general public survey is based on telephone interviews conducted July , , with a nationally representative sample of 2, adults ages 18 and older.
Both groups have more money than they could possibly spend, which leaves them with much leisure time for cultivating a variety of interests. They live in exclusive neighborhoods, gather at expensive social clubs, and send their children to the finest schools. As might be expected, they also exercise a great deal of influence and power both nationally and globally.
They hustle, they learn, they work their asses off developing a killer mindset that can handle a high amount of pressure. If left to my own devices, I am always looking for more ways to become more and more psychologically impregnable.
When uncomfortable, my instinct is not to avoid confrontations but to become at peace with it. My instinct is to seek out challenges as opposed to avoiding them. Is that your mindset? Is your life based on the world-class mindsets and beliefs of upper class performers? Do you seek out challenges and focus on building your resiliency? Do you invest in yourself, working towards important goals?
Act like they do. Treat yourself like they treat themselves. When you truly start believing you can succeed, your life will look a lot different. Remember, belief becomes reality. They still live their life with a lower or middle class mindset. Of course, things like systematic racism, sexism, and all types of xenophobia are very real and present very real problems for talented performers stuck in an oppressive cycle.
These issues need to be addressed and dealt with, and there are many things out of your control. But in the meantime, you must upgrade your own mindset. You must start thinking with an upper-class mindset, and model your behavior after very successful people.
